Spanish Pilots Postpone Decision to Strike at Christmas

SEPLA, the Spanish Union of Air Line Pilots, has called off plans to strike pending the outcome of further negotiations regarding Aviation Working Time & Rest and Fatigue Prevention.

On Friday 3rd December, union representatives met the Secretary of State for Transport, Táboas Isaiah, and the director general of Civil Aviation, Manuel Ameijeiras Vales, at the headquarters of the Ministry.

Following a very positive meeting, the decision to strike was postponed until a further meeting could be held on 9th or 10th December.

The Chairman of SEPLA said:

“SEPLA’s desire is to avoid conflict and disruption to the public. If the meeting takes place next week on the same terms as that of today, we are convinced that we can cancel the demonstrations. We hope that the Ministry will match our hopes so that we can agree on a document that puts safety above economic interests. “
