Skanska Awarded Contract to build HMP Grampian – 500 Place Prison in Peterhead, Scotland

The new facility will replace HMP Peterhead which was established in 1888

Skanska have been awarded the contract to build HMP Grampian, a new prison for Northern Scotland. The 500 place facility will house both male and female inmates and will replace the current prisons HMP Aberdeen and HMP Peterhead. Aberdeenshire Council granted planning permission for HMP Grampian in March 2011. Construction will begin in early 2012 with completion expected in the summer of 2013.  The contract is worth £57 million to the UK arm of the Swedish infrastructure company.
