NASA’s Cassini spacecraft took this image of Saturn’s moons, Mimas and Pandora.
Researchers believe that the elongated shape of Pandora (the smaller moon) may hold clues to how it and other moons near Saturn’s rings formed.
The image was taken in blue light with Cassini’s narrow-angle camera on May 14, 2013. The view was acquired at a distance of approximately 690,000 miles (1.1 million kilometers) from Mimas.
The Cassini-Huygens mission is a cooperative project of NASA, the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency. The imaging operations center is based at the Space Science Institute in Boulder, Colorado in the United States.
