Rakuten (JASDAQ: 4755) has staked its claim on the global eCommerce market with a new fulfillment center near Scranton, Pennsylvania, approximately 80 miles from New York City, and an expanded presence in Las Vegas that doubles the size of an existing Webgistix fulfillment center.
Semi-automated logistics centres are the powerhouses driving the world’s largest eCommerce websites such as Amazon. Webgistix is now a direct competitor to Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA), which allows smaller retailers to utilise a share of warehousing and logistics organised by the eCommerce giant.
Webgistix now claims that its fulfillment network enables merchants to reach 98 percent of United States eCommerce shoppers in 1 to 2 days via ground shipping.
40,000 merchants sell on the Rakuten.com Shopping platform, which was formerly named Buy.com. Rakuten also owns the affiliate network, Linkshare, as well as the online retail brand, Play.com.
