Desiree Plata, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering, juggles science projects with her children at home, while leading PhD-level science projects with her MIT lab family via Zoom. Putting her heart into both, she encourages her children and her students to use resources they have on hand to inform their projects. “At some point, we’re going to rush back into the lab and be very excited about that,” she says, “but in the meantime, we’re going to make the best of what we have available and that’ll lead to new and different ideas.”
