It is often difficult to rouse enough motivation to find out about your local politicians – especially in the 2009 European Elections when there are many small and unfamiliar parties standing and faith in politics is at an all time low.
However, the European Elections use a form of proportional representation, so votes for smaller parties will have more chance of making a difference.
This voting guide will also help voters in the UK to make an informed decision. It is important to remember that several parties state that their members will not take up their seats in the European Parliament should they be elected. Whether or not you feel this is the best way to represent your interests in Brussels should be the first point to consider when choosing who to vote for. Just use the links and the back buttons to navigate through the different parties in your area.

Jury Team
The Jury Team was founded for those people who believe in democracy, but who have observed how the current party political system has turned the United Kingdom’s Parliament and Government into the creatures of a small and increasingly distant group of oligarchical politicians.
Liberal Democrats
Liberal Democrats know effective cooperation creates prosperity – more than 3 million jobs in the UK depend on trade with other EU countries.

We want to build a Europe of Equals – a true partnership of equal sovereign states, co-operating in social and economic development in Europe and beyond. We want an EU that promotes peace, demilitarisation and nuclear disarmament and the just resolution of conflicts under the leadership of a reformed, renewed and democratised United Nations. Ultimately, we want a future United Ireland to take an active, leading role in such a reformed EU.
SDLP (Social Democratic & Labour Party)
The SDLP is strongly committed to full participation in the European Union. The SDLP is enthusiastic for ongoing enlargement of the European Union to create a union of democracy, prosperity and justice from the Baltic to the Mediterranean and from the Atlantic to the Black Sea.
Socialist Labour Party
The SLP aims to build on the heritage of all the movements of resistance to the free – market offensive in Britain over the past two decades. In particular, it is the political heir of the year-long miner’s strike of 1984-5 and the tremendous movement of solidarity it inspired in all sections of British society.

The Roman Party Ave!
Traditional Unionist Voice – TUV
TUV was formed in December 2007 to give voice to Traditional Unionists throughout Northern Ireland who reject unrepentant terrorists at the heart of government and who feel betrayed by those who ushered them into government. In essence we occupy the ground forsaken by those who for the sake of office sacrificed their principles. We hold that “nothing which is morally wrong can be politically right.”
Ulster Conservatives and Unionists – New Force
United Kingdom First
If elected as an MEP, I will not sit on committees of the European Parliament nor attend the plenaries in Brussels and Strasbourg except in the case of a vote which the party leadership regards as of critical importance to British interests.
