As if a savage, decade-long economic crisis, the largest bankruptcy declaration of a public administration in U.S. history, and the devastation wrought by hurricanes Irma and Maria weren’t enough, now Puerto Rico has to contend with earthquakes. More than 2000 seismic movements have been recorded since 2019 and are now continuing into 2020.
However, beyond their climatic or geological misfortunes, Puerto Rico’s long-running crisis hides pathologies that better explain the decline of the island. We’ve covered this topic in two previous videos here on VisualPolitik, now we want to get a little closer to the day-to-day life on the island. How is it possible that a U.S. territory has not yet managed to repair the damage of a hurricane that occurred more than two years ago? We’ll tell you all about it in this video.
