POLICE BRUTALITY, Crime and Drug TRAFFICKING in the PHILIPPINES – VisualPolitik EN

Even though the Philippines has enjoyed 20 years without suffering a single quarter of negative growth and although average economic growth has been nearly 6% annually over the past decade, the Philippines remains a very poor country.

We are talking about a country where the average salary is just over $200 per month and where one of its main sources of wealth is the nearly $30 billion that more than 12 million Philippine people around the world transfer in remittances to their families each year.

And that’s not all. If we add to this all the problems that the government has in controlling a country made up of more than 7,000 islands, poor infrastructure and 170 different languages then we find it’s the perfect breeding ground for the emergence of “unsuitable” activities.

And it is precisely here that the figure of Rodrigo Duterte has arisen, a president who has made abuse and authoritarianism the hallmarks of his government. However, his popularity among the country’s population remains very high, why? In this video we’ll tell you.
