Poland has one of the most conservative governments in the European Union: a coalition government where the de facto leader is Jaroslaw Kaczynski. Kaczynski is both a conservative and an animal rights advocate. And that is why, in 2020, he has put all his political clout into passing a highly controversial animal rights law.
Poland is one of the biggest exporters of animal skins and halal and kosher food: industries that would disappear completely with the passing of this law. On the other hand, a significant number of conservative voters in Poland come from rural areas and work in the fur and meat industries. In other words, the Polish animal rights law is especially controversial among the very electorates that support the government coalition.
Why has Kaczynski made such a seemingly self-destructive decision? In this video we tell you.
