Controversial Australian Politician Pauline Hanson Back

Pauline Hanson, the infamous Australian politician who lead the One Nation political party, and castigated for her racist remarks, is back in politics, launching a surprise bid for the NSW election, nominating for a spot in the upper house.

Hanson, who has not stood for parliament since 2003, where she was not successful, has returned to Australia and is living in Corlette, near Nelson Bay on the NSW north coast.

A spokesman for the ticket indicated that Hanson would be running on “cost of living issues”, including campaigns against privatisation, the carbon tax and other hip pocket issues.

Labour and the Opposition however have indicated they would not support the Hanson ticket, both parties stating they would not direct preferences to her. In th past Hanson has been seen as an extreme right-wing racist.

Yesterday she commented:

“No-one can ever comment or make a comment on any racist statement I have ever said.

I have … as an Australian … a right to question immigration and multiculturalism, which I don’t believe is helping our country. I believe in people coming here, assimilating, becoming Australians and be proud of this country and abide by the laws of the land.”

Hanson will stand in the March 26 poll as part of a group of 16 independents.
