Is Nayib Bukele a political hero or a would-be tyrant? Since he has taken office, Bukele has made an about turn in the politics of his country: El Salvador. We are talking about the most violent country in the world and one of the poorest in Latin America. For decades, extremely corrupt political elites have led this country to misery. Bukele is an outsider willing to change all this.

However, his style of politics scares many, particularly international observers. Both the US and the European Union are frightened by Bukele’s authoritarian practices. And it is still too early to judge the long-term effects of his policies. Meanwhile, his popularity in the country just keeps growing.

Is Bukele the messiah that many want to see in Latin America… or is he a new tyrant? In this video we tell you.
