Qatar: NATO Secretary General Meets Crown Prince Tamim al-Thani

The NATO Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen is visiting the capital of Qatar, Doha, between 14th and 16th February 2011 for a bilateral visit with leaders of the state.

The Secretary General met with the Crown Prince H.E. Sheikh Tamim Bin-Hamad Bin-Khalifah Al-Thani, the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, H.E. Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim bin Jabr Al-Thani and the Chief of Staff of the Qatar Armed Forces, H.E. Hamad Bin Ali Al-Attiyah.

Mr Rasmussen will also attend a conference on ”Deepening the NATO – Istanbul Cooperation Initiative” together with Permanent Representatives of the North Atlantic Council and senior government officials from the partner countries in the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative, Oman and Saudi Arabia. This conference is co-organised by the State of Qatar and NATO.

Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates are already full members of the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative which allows for intelligence sharing, co-operation on military exercises and work on interoperability. It is hoped that Oman and Saudi Arabia will join the scheme.
