One-Off Rolls-Royce Edition: The Masterpiece London 2011 Drophead Coupé

A one-off special edition of the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé has been designed and made to capture “the essence of a perfect weekend get-away.”

The single edition of the hand-built “Masterpiece London 2011 Drophead Coupé” was designed especially for the motor car exhibition of the same name. Masterpiece London 2011 is held in the South Grounds of the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, and the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé is available for preview from Friday 29th June 2011. The fair runs from Saturday 30th June until Friday 5th July 2011.

The exclusive vehicle from Rolls-Royce is painted in a new colour, Mazarine Blue, and features bespoke luggage, teak decking, engraved tread plates and an Asprey jewellery box making one of the world’s most elegant cars even more luxurious. The bonnet-mounted Spirit of Ecstasy is also inscribed to celebrate 100 years of the world’s most famous car mascot.

Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, proudly introduced the new model:

“We are delighted to present this outstanding Rolls-Royce at Masterpiece London 2011. Craftsmanship and attention to detail shine through in features developed at Goodwood and in partnership with Asprey. It’s a model that demonstrates the breadth of our bespoke offering, where the only limit to what we can deliver is a client’s imagination.”

Mazarine Blue is just one of 44,000 colours available to buyers of the standard Phantom – if any car as expensive as a Rolls-Royce can be described as such – and was inspired by the butterfly of the same name, a rare and exotic visitor to Great Britain. The interior leather is in Seashell with Navy Blue contrasting accents, with the Rolls-Royce logo embroidered on the headrests.

The Asprey jewellery box sits in the passenger’s side glove box and provides a secure place to store watches, jewellery and cufflinks when the Phantom is parked with the roof lowered. Each one takes two days to make and comprises 15 separate pieces of leather.

The bespoke dark blue luggage is designed at the Rolls-Royce factory in Goodwood, England and is made of the finest leather, which takes four months to tan using only berries, bark and wood.

The teak decking is inspired by that used on yachts and adds an art deco touch alongside the mother-of-pearl inlays set into the Santos Palissander wood veneers, white instrument dials and rotary controllers.
