Jailed Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo has today been awarded the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize, Thorbjoern Jagland, the president of the Nobel committee has announced.
In his speech, Jagland described the decision as “controversial” before announcing that Liu Xiaobo had been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 2010.
Liu was imprisoned in 2008 for drafting a bill which called for improved human rights in the China.
