Fashion: Maison Martin Margiela, Autumn Winter 2010 – 2011

From a leather catwoman to full cowgirl jumpsuit and fur halterneck top, Maison Martin Margiela has the aura of a mad scientist’s laboratory; splicing collections and dreaming up new uses for old fashions. The entire design studio is painted in distressed white and all of the staff wear lab coats. Pieces are formulated from vintage items sourced from around the globe, which results in surprising outfits.

Clutch bags are melded into a separate jacket and trousers, vintage furs are thrown together in a melee of a halter top and cowboy boots are elongated into a leather jumpsuit. Each piece is one-off and took a minimum of 31 hours to create.

A separate, full Autumn Winter collection is also available from Maison Martin Margiela for both men and women – including an autograph moped helmet and fly fishing box for men’s jewellery.
