Paris Haute Couture Week: Elie Saab Winter 2010

The Elie Saab Winter collection was a spectacle of major proportions. Flashbulbs lit the room as celebrities and press packed the Théâtre National de Chaillot at Trocadero in Paris. Outside, a crazed fan argued loudly with the doormen as the premium pieces from one of fashion’s most illustrious houses were paraded for the world’s glitterati.

The Winter gowns were long, sequinned and glamorous providing a wealth of red carpet choice for all tastes and skin tones. The models wore straightforward makeup with long, shiny, straightened hair.

Everything in the collection was similarly beautiful and wearable until the final breathtaking piece: The Bride. “A vision in pearly grey embroidered leaves dusted with gold” according to Saab. The giant train required special assistants just to allow the model to turn. The delicate outer layer of the bridal gown veiled an intricate golden pattern which shimmered through the transparent fabric. The dress embodied the studied balance of Saab’s collection which makes every piece therein so very coveted.
