Npower Championship 2011/12: Southampton 3-1 Leeds Utd

Southampton made a good start to their first season back in the Championship by defeating Leeds United at home 3-1 on the evening of Saturday 6th August 2011.

The Saints led 2-0 at half time after goals from Dean Hammond (10) and Adam Lallana (25) had settled home fans’ nerves, before David Connolly (52) made all but certain of the win early in the second half.

Leeds did gain a consolation with a Max Gradel (90+5) penalty deep in second half injury time, but this was easily too little, too late, as Southampton collected three points at St Mary’s.
