The Alashankou port has handled over 2,000 China-Europe freight trains as a return train bound for Poland pulled on May 7. It is located in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. So far, the port has handled more than 24,000 China-Europe freight trains on 78 routes that link 24 provincial-level regions across China with 18 European countries, including Germany, Poland and Russia.

The ancient Silk Road trade route linking China and the Middle East passed through Xinjiang, a legacy that can be seen in the traditional open-air bazaars of its oasis cities, Hotan and Kashgar.
