China’s 55 ethnic minorities have a combined population of over 125 million. Some of the country regions are particularly noted for their ethnic diversity, with Uygurs in the northwest, Mongolians in the north, and Tibetans, Miaos and numerous other ethnic communities in the southwest. President Xi Jinping, in frequent visits to these regions, has consistently stressed the importance of promoting harmony among all ethnic groups, including the majority group Han.
