There’s renewed talk of a possible visit by Chinese president Xi Jinping to Russia in the coming weeks. The suggestion was first floated by Russian leader Vladimir Putin late last month during a video conference between the two leaders. International editor of the Sydney Morning Herald, Peter Hartcher, tells The World if the visit goes ahead, the timing would be very significant.

Overlooking the Dnieper River is the Kiev Pechersk Lavra monastery complex, a Christian pilgrimage site housing Scythian tomb relics and catacombs containing mummified Orthodox monks.
