    September 3 marks the 75th anniversary of the Allied victory over Japan in World War II, a deep scar in history that left tens of millions dead. Chinese President Xi Jinping and other top officials paid tribute to war heroes on Thursday. Japan formally surrendered in 1945. The victory came at a heavy price. China honored the heroic sacrifices and the message was to remember history, not hatred.
