The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the world’s largest free trade agreement, officially came into force on Saturday. The agreement came into effect with a first batch of 10 countries, including six of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) members — Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, together with China, Japan, New Zealand and Australia. The agreement will enter into force on February 1 for South Korea, according to a statement by the ASEAN Secretariat on Saturday.

New Zealand is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. It consists of two main landmasses—the North Island and the South Island —and around 600 smaller islands, covering a total area of 268,021 square kilometres.
Singapore, officially the Republic of Singapore, is a sovereign island city-state in maritime Southeast Asia.
The country’s territory is composed of one main island, 63 satellite islands and islets, and one outlying islet, the combined area of which has increased by 25% since the country’s independence as a result of extensive land reclamation projects. It has the second greatest population density in the world. The country has almost 5.7 million residents, 61% (3.4 million) of whom are Singaporean citizens. There are four official languages of Singapore: English, Malay, Chinese, and Tamil; with English being the lingua franca.
South Korea, an East Asian nation on the southern half of the Korean Peninsula, shares one of the world’s most heavily militarized borders with North Korea. Vietnam is a Southeast Asian country known for its beaches, rivers, Buddhist pagodas and bustling cities. Hanoi, the capital, pays homage to the nation’s iconic Communist-era leader, Ho Chi Minh, via a huge marble mausoleum. Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) has French colonial landmarks, plus Vietnamese War history museums and the Củ Chi tunnels, used by Viet Cong soldiers.
