South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “World’s deepest shipwreck: US destroyer sunk in WWII found off the Philippine coast” – below is their description.
A US navy destroyer that was sunk during a World War II battle with Japan has been found off the Philippine coast at a depth of 6,895 metres (22,621ft), making it the world’s deepest shipwreck ever located and surveyed. The USS Samuel B Roberts took part in the Battle off Samar, the final phase of the Battle of Leyte Gulf in October 1944. The vessel also known as the “Sammy B” was among four ships lost in the engagement as US forces fought to liberate the Philippines, then a US colony, from Japanese occupation.
