April 22, Wednesday, is the 50th anniversary of World Earth Day. UN chief Antonio Guterres is urging governments to use their economic responses to the pandemic to tackle what he calls the “even deeper emergency” of climate change. Guterres has made climate change his signature issue since becoming the UN secretary-general in 2017. He cautions governments against bailing out heavily polluting industries. World Earth Day has prompted calls from many companies, politicians, and economists for governments to pursue green recoveries.
