Woman Starts Food Drive For Coronavirus-Hit Families in the Philippines

Poinsettia Dormido, owner of House of Mugs, is raising money to buy food for families who can’t make ends meet because of the coronavirus lockdown in the Philippines.

When she’s not manning her mug museum in Bago City, she travels to neighboring towns and villages to distribute the food packs.

“We had extra food packs so we distributed them to families we passed on the street,” Poinsettia says. “I feel sad because there were more people trying to run after our car, but I did not have enough food packs for them. So I gave them 100 pesos ($1.99) to buy rice instead.”

Poinsettia started the drive for her local community. But expanded with
the help of donations.

She applied for a government pass to get around.

She buys the groceries herself and brings them back to her museum to be packed by volunteers.

Poinsettia has helped more than 2,000 families since starting the initiative in March.

“It really pains me that I was not able to help everyone. I promised that if God will give me more blessings, I will come back to bring help.”
