Police will allege a 53-year-old woman ambushed then killed her estranged husband outside his home on Wednesday night in a “premeditated” and “brutal” attack.

Bonita Vivien Coue was arrested at the scene in Newmarket on Wednesday night and represented herself in the Brisbane Arrests Court on Thursday morning.

Ms Coue has been charged with murder, two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and going armed to cause fear.

Police will allege the woman waited in a stairwell for Kerry Rooney to return home, spraying him in the face with bleach before stabbing him multiple times in the back, torso, hands, legs and neck.

They also allege that a neighbour tried to intervene with a baseball bat, but Ms Coue is alleged to have pointed a toy gun at the man, causing him to retreat.

Detective Superintendent Tony Fleming told a press conference on Thursday the alleged attack took place on the corner of Erneton and Ward streets.
