Global News published this video item, entitled “Windsor, Australia residents brace for evacuation as flooding intensifies” – below is their description.
Heavy rains are causing major flooding around the Hawkesbury River region, west of Sydney, forcing thousands to evacuate and damaging hundreds of houses.
Australian media reported the Hawkesbury River was set to rise as high as 12 metres at North Richmond, Windsor region by midday on Sunday.
New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the downpour across the state, Australia’s most populous with 8 million people, was worse than initially expected, especially for low-lying areas in Sydney’s northwest.
Several dams, including the Warragamba Dam, Sydney’s main water supply, spilled over causing river levels to surge.
