Sky News published this video item, entitled “Wimbledon stripped of ranking points for banning Russian players” – below is their description.
Wimbledon has been stripped of its world ranking points following its decision to ban Russian and Belarusian players from the tournament.
World tennis authorities said the move undermined the fundamental principle of players qualifying on merit, with the ATP stating that “discrimination by individual tournaments is simply not viable”.
The organisers of Wimbledon announced the ban in April due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
