Will sanctions threat end the conflict in Ethiopia’s Tigray? | Inside Story

Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “Will sanctions threat end the conflict in Ethiopia’s Tigray? | Inside Story” – below is their description.

U.S. president Joe Biden is adding pressure on all sides to end the fighting in Ethiopia’s Tigray region.

He’s signed an executive order threatening new sanctions against the Ethiopian and Eritrean governments, leaders of Ethiopia’s Amhara region, and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front.

While Tigrayan rebels welcomed the announcement, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister accused the West of chastising his government.

So will the U.S. threat be enough to stop nearly a year of fighting?
