A spate of wildfires is scorching parts of Europe, with firefighters battling blazes in Portugal, Spain and southern France on Wednesday amid an unusual heat wave that authorities are linking to climate change.

In the center of Portugal, a small village had to cope with a fast-spreading blaze that surrounded many houses in less than an hour causing some residents to quickly flee and others to grab their own water tanks.
