Wildfires spreading across Syria, Turkey, Israel and Lebanon, triggered by a heatwave, have forced hundreds of people to flee their residences. Homes were evacuated in the southern province of Hatay, Turkey as wildfire broke out near residential areas. The Sarimazi neighbourhood, on the border of Iskenderun and Belen districts, was evacuated too as homes and businesses were damaged according to local reports. Smoke and a reddish haze hovered over the northwestern Syrian coastal town of Om al-Toyour, in the Latakia Governorate, as a series of wildfires spread through the area as local media reported that thousands of residents fled the fires. The Latakia Fire Brigade reported fires in the governorate on Friday, blaming strong winds for their fast spread. In Lebanon, authorities were battling fierce wildfires across the Mount Lebanon mountain range on Oct. 8 and 9. The Lebanese Civil Defense said rising temperatures and high wind speeds were contributing to the spread of the fires.
