A helicopter crew with the California National Guard on September 9 reported that they called off a rescue mission as smoke thrown up by the Creek Fire reduced visibility. This video shows a crew looking over the smoky California landscape. Not all of their efforts have failed, however. According to the Defense Department, around 400 people and 40 animals have been taken to safety by national guard helicopters since the Creek Fire broke out on September 4.
