Why is Myanmar stepping up attacks on ethnic rebel groups? I Inside Story

There has been much attention on the Myanmar military’s campaign against the Rohingya Muslim minority.
But over the past few weeks, the Myanmar army hass stepped up attacks on ethnic armed groups such as the Arakan Army, who are mainly Buddhist fighters fighting for greater autonomy.
The UN says air strikes and shelling have killed at least 32 people in two states over the past three weeks.
What’s behind the uptick in violence?
And why has Myanmar’s military rejected offers of a ceasefire?

The Netherlands, informally Holland, is a country primarily located in Western Europe and partly in the Caribbean, forming the largest constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. In the Caribbean, it consists of three special municipalities: the islands of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba. The country’s official language is Dutch, with West Frisian as a secondary official language in the province of Friesland, and English and Papiamentu as secondary official languages in the Caribbean Netherlands. Dutch Low Saxon and Limburgish are recognised regional languages (spoken in the east and southeast respectively), while Sinte Romani and Yiddish are recognised non-territorial languages.
