Why China is rooting for a Trump re-election | US elections 2020

The Telegraph published this video item, entitled “Why China is rooting for a Trump re-election | US elections 2020” – below is their description.

Donald Trump’s relationship with China was troubled long before Coronavirus hit. From trade tariffs to the sanctioning of Chinese officials and the banning of Chinese technology companies like Huawei,  relations between the two super powers have been likened to a new cold war. So you’d assume that China would be looking forward to November 3rd, hoping for a change of office. But is that actually the case? Whilst Donald Trump’s initial shock victory in 2016 might have changed Chinese-US relations, there are some that believe it’s played to China’s advantage and that actually Joe Biden’s approach could spell out more problems for China than the incumbent administration. In this video, we explore the complicated relationship between the two countries, how Joe Biden and Donald Trump’s policies and approaches differ and what that all means for China.  For more on the US election coverage visit: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/usa/ With thanks to: Sophia Yan – China Correspondent, The Telegraph Prof Chris Hughes – London School of Economics Kathy Frankovic – Polling Consultant, YouGov America Sir Iain Duncan Smith – Conservative MP Credits: Archive: Getty Director: Jeremy Holden Assistant Producer: Marnie Gill & Elliott Daly Production Manager: Carla de Nicola Research and Script: Jeremy Holden Film Editor: Edward Gould Motion Designer: Frank Weber Music: Audionetwork Executive Producers: Andy Mackenzie & Danielle Robinson Telegraph.co.uk and YouTube.com/TelegraphTV are websites of The Telegraph, the UK’s best-selling quality daily newspaper providing news and analysis on UK and world events, business, sport, lifestyle and culture.
