The World Health Organization is on the frontline of global health, and often also the target of criticism. The UN’s health agency founded in 1948 has 194 member states. From its headquarters in Geneva, 7000 medical experts coordinate the response to global health crises. In the past the organisation has been accused of being slow to respond to emergency situations, and has also faced backlash for its handling of the current Covid-19 outbreak.
