Michigan’s secretary of state says over 3.2 million people in her state have requested absentee ballots and 2.4 million have already been returned. Jocelyn Benson said at a Wednesday briefing that “Michigan voters are going to show the country that we overwhelmingly trust our election system and know that votes will count, and voices will be heard.” Benson also warned people to expect misinformation aimed at casting doubt on the election results in Michigan. But she says these attacks won’t succeed. Governor Gretchen Whitmer said the high volume of absentee ballots means winners in many races may not be decided for days after November 3rd. Attorney General Dana Nessel says polls will be kept “safe and secure.” A judge has blocked a ban on the open display of guns near Michigan polling places on Election Day. Judge Christopher Murray acted Tuesday, just a few hours after hearing a challenge from gun-rights groups. They said Benson had exceeded her authority in banning people from openly carrying guns within 100 feet of polling places.
