White House’s new press secretary holds 1st briefing in wake of US deadly shootings | LIVE

Global News published this video item, entitled “White House’s new press secretary holds 1st briefing in wake of US deadly shootings | LIVE” – below is their description.

The White House’s new press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is expected to hold her first briefing in the role after she officially took over from Jen Psaki, who has held the position since the beginning of the Biden administration.

Jean-Pierre makes history by becoming both the first Black person in the role and the first who is openly gay.

But her first press briefing is likely to revolve around violent extremism and reawakened calls for stricter gun control following multiple fatal shootings across the U.S. this past weekend, including in Buffalo, N.Y. where 10 died at a supermarket and in Laguna Hills, Calif. where one died and four were critically injured at a church.

According to the police in Buffalo, the suspect had driven to the city heavily armed with an intent to target Black residents, posting a manifesto about his plan and livestreaming the assault. The 18-year-old white male suspect is now in custody and has been charged with 1st-degree murder in the racially-charged killing spree.

And in California, the suspect in that shooting is also said to not be from the area and police are investigating if he has any connections to the congregation or church. Police said it is believed parishioners at the church were able to detain him shortly after the attack occurred.
