The White House has reportedly sent an unofficial delegation to Taiwan at President Joe Biden’s request.

According to Reuters, former Sen. Chris Dodd and two former deputy secretaries of state were sent to Taipei. One official called it a personal signal of Biden’s commitment to the island and its democracy.

The visit comes as the U.S. and Taiwan mark the 42nd anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act, which Biden voted for as a senator.
