Global News published this video item, entitled “White House says sweeping sanctions against Russia the result of their “unacceptable actions”” – below is their description.

The Biden administration on Thursday rolled out a sweeping set of sanctions on Russia over its election interference, hacking efforts and other malign activity.

During a White House press briefing on Thursday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the goal of the sanctions on Russia was to impose consequences for the SolarWinds hack and 2020 election interference, not to escalate tensions further.

Psaki also addressed the intelligence community’s look into reports that Russia encouraged the Taliban to attack US and coalition forces in Afghanistan.

She said they have “low to moderate confidence” in these reports, partly due to reliance on detainee reporting and the challenges of gathering information and data.
