Global News published this video item, entitled “White House lays out plan for COVID-19 vaccine rollout for children 5-11” – below is their description.
White House COVID-19 response coordinator Jeff Zients laid out the administration’s plans Wednesday for rolling out vaccines to children aged five to 11 ahead of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) decision on whether to approve the Pfizer-BioNTech jab for this age group. The FDA is expected to meet next week and the CDC the week following.
Zients said over the past several weeks the White House has been working with governors, pediatricians, pharmacies, community and rural health centres and other vaccine providers to prepare should it be approved. He added they had secured enough supply to vaccinate every child ages five through 11 and will begin shipping doses as soon as the vaccine is authorized for use.
The administration is also working with Pfizer to modify packaging of the pediatric doses to make it easier for providers to give the vaccine to children, and all doses will also be shipped with supplies needed, including smaller needles.
He also said that in order to ensure children have a variety of places they can access the vaccine, they have enrolled more than 25,000 pediatricians, family doctors and other primary care providers to administer vaccines and are working with the Children’s Hospital Association among other outlets for delivery.
