Boris Johnson has suffered the most ministerial resignations in 24 hours since 1932, as his premiership plunged to its lowest point yet.
Since Tuesday evening, nine ministers have resigned as the fallout from Downing Street’s handling of the Chris Pincher affair continues to grow.
Sajid Javid, the now-former health secretary, was the first Cabinet minister to go on Tuesday night, followed by the then chancellor Rishi Sunak.
On Wednesday morning, two education ministers, Will Quince and Robin Walker, followed suit – as did the solicitor general Alex Chalk, treasury minister John Glen and prisons minister Victoria Atkins. By lunchtime, Stuart Andrew, the housing minister, and Jo Churchill, the health minister, had also gone.
