Sky News Australia published this video item, entitled “What’s happening now in the NSW Parliament is a ‘disgrace to democracy'” – below is their description.
NSW One Nation Leader Mark Latham says the attempt of the New South Wales Liberal, Labor and the Greens parties to “rush through” the Electricity Infrastructure Investment Bill in the NSW Parliament is “a full-on disgrace to democracy”. His comment comes regarding a recent Electricity Bill tabled before the State Parliament of New South Wales which looks to replace four coal-fired power stations with wind, pumped hydro and solar projects over the next 15 years. Sky News host Alan Jones said “the only person” standing up against this was Mark Latham. “You haven’t got full transparency of information, and you’ve got a minister, Matt Kean, who’s keeping the modelling, the audit, the very damning audit on the modelling secret,” Mr Latham said. “Here is the most important economic, so-called reform, in New South Wales in our lifetime, and there’s an attempt by Labor, Liberal and the Greens to rush it through in just a couple of days. “The scandal is not just in the secrecy, it’s also the impact on consumers because the bill, unbelievably, gives Matt Kean full control to levy the electricity distributers. “Kean himself has got a claim out there that is going to save $130 a year for households, $430 for small businesses, but that claim he’s making … is actually on a do-nothing, worst-case scenario where the government just sits there and does nothing, no new generators, just watches the existing generators close which would create a supply crisis and sky -rocketing crisis. “Kean, I’m afraid, is permanently loose with the truth, he holds secrets, he never does anything unless it’s a slinky way to do it. “And what’s happening now, between Liberal, Labor and the Greens in the New South Wales parliament is a full-on disgrace to democracy.”
