ABC News (Australia) published this video item, entitled “What went wrong? A look at the state of Rugby Union | The Drum” – below is their description.
Twenty years ago, Australian Rugby Union games attracted crowds nudging 100,000, buoyed by the promise of an All-Blacks thrashing.
The game was awash with money and star players, were feted by the media and the public – the pin up boys of a fine sporting tradition.
Today the code is $20 million in the red and bleeding fans, players, sponsors and perhaps more crucially leaders.
The Drum’s Eliza Harvey has taken a look at what went wrong.
