ABC News (Australia) published this video item, entitled “What this school is doing differently that’s changing the lives of disengaged students | ABC News” – below is their description.
Lachlan used to find school “bland” and could not focus in classes that were dominated by theory.
But the hands-on approach at an independent school that has ditched the 9:00am to 3:00pm classroom structure of mainstream schools has invigorated the Year 11 student.
Arethusa College in Deception Bay offers the Australian curriculum with a flexible approach and alternative programs to help students who have disengaged get the most out of their education.
“I came here last year just after online schooling was done because of COVID and I came here because my other school was just too bland for me and I couldn’t focus too much,” Lachlan said.
He said he enjoys learning outdoors and working on little projects “that don’t mean anything at the moment but will mean something in the long run”.
