ITV News published this video item, entitled “What is it like living next to an active volcano? | ITV News” – below is their description.
Rageh Omaar visits Iceland’s Fagradalsfjall volcano which started erupting in March 2021 with spectacular plumes of molten lava flooding the valley below.
Whilst most volcanoes are inaccessible, dangerous, or remote, this eruption was less than an hour from the capital, Reykjavik, and surprisingly safe – making it the perfect tourist destination – and since the lava started flowing, visitors from around the world have flocked to it in their droves.
While some Islanders warn of complacency in the face of the destructive potential any volcano brings, Rageh examines why so many others are drawn to this very recent natural wonder.
On Assignment is ITV’s current affairs series presented by Rageh Omaar where ITV News journalists contribute in-depth reports from around the world on the stories behind the headlines.
