Protesters in Peru have defied a state of emergency to gather in the captial Lima to call for President Dina Boluarte to resign.

Thousands of people arrived in a caravan from the regions.

Many of the supporters of former president Pedro Castillo have a similar background to their former leader.

They are indigenous, poor and live in Peru’s rural and mountain regions.

The say President Dina Boluarte’s government does not represent them.

Protesters want early elections but Bolurate has refused to step down.

What will it take to fix the ongoing crisis?
