It is hard to imagine Canberra without the sparkling centrepiece of Lake Burley Griffin. But have you ever wondered what was there before the lake?

Considering excavation of Lake Burley Griffin did not begin until 1960, the area has a rich history — dating back, of course, 25,000 years through the Molonglo Valley’s First Nations people.

From cows to racecourses to a Catholic hub, European settlement all began with Springbank.
