    Scientists have long been warning the world is running out of time to stave off the catastrophic impact of climate change.

    Alberta has stood out as the province with the highest emissions in Canada. In 2019, the oil and gas sector was the largest source for these emissions.

    While the oil and gas industry is a big emitter, it is also a huge economic driver in Canada. As Eric Sorensen reports, that makes shifting to a green economy a big challenge.

    As a highly developed country, Canada has the seventeenth-highest nominal per-capita income globally as well as the thirteenth-highest ranking in the Human Development Index. Its advanced economy is the tenth-largest in the world, relying chiefly upon its abundant natural resources and well-developed international trade networks.
