Matt Hancock, the health secretary, addresses the House of Commons to set out the government’s latest response to the coronavirus pandemic.
He said the number of cases in the UK could keep rising “for months” and announced that emergency legislation could soon be introduced to help fight the pandemic.
“We do not expect numbers to peak in the next fortnight, we expect numbers to continue to rise after that and the peak would be in a matter of a couple of months, rather than a matter of a couple of weeks,” Mr Hancock said.
“This is a marathon and not a sprint.”
