Adventurer and cameleer John Arthur Elliott has been trekking with his five camels in an odyssey across Australia.

But he found himself in quite a pickle on a Tasmanian trail near Poatina in the central highlands, when his 300-kilogram companions became stuck.

  1. He calls himself John the Camel Man, but as his elder sister, I think there was a bit more of a John the News Hound about him on this day. At least it wasn’t as dramatic as the cliff incident on 3 May last year!
